Will insurance total out my car?
Hey guys,
My car got rear ended a couple days ago and some damage to the rear end. I was wondering if you guys think it'll get totaled out. The bumper is totally smashed, the left rear quarter panel is all wrinkled, the fiberglass on the hatch is cracked and frayed under the spoiler, the back plate where you put the key is smashed. Everything except the hatch is pushed in about two inches so it looks like the hatch has an overbite of about that far. Underneath I noticed that what looks like the frame (directly above and to the outside of the exhaust) is bent. Do you think all that would be enough to total a '97 Z28 with 171K miles on it? I love my car and have never been in an accident before so I'm just kind of worried about it.
Thanks!

Re: Will insurance total out my car?
This same thing happened to me in my 98 v6. It smashed in the lady's front end on her accord and my rear end only got banged up a little. It appeared that all it needed was a new bumper cover but once the shop got a hold of it they pulled off the back bumper to find that the rear panel had gotten bent in a little. The insurance company totaled it. But, if I never had that wreck, I wouldn't have my Z28 now. So I came out smelling like a rose. From seeing the pictures you posted I would say that unfortunately, the insurance company is likely to try and total it. If they do and you think you could get it fixed back up good, I would try talking to the insurance company and see where they will be putting the car up for auction. Maybe you can get it back for a good price and still have some good $$$ left from the insurance check.
Pics of my old car after the wreck are on my profile.
