What should I pay? 1998 Z28 convertible
So, crazy story. In 2006 I sold my 1998 z28 convertible m6 with about 45k miles, leather, and replica c5 chrome 5 spokes for $12,000. Car was always garage kept and almost immaculate. I sold it to my good buddy right after I started law school. We said I could buy it back later if I ever wanted.
Well, Ive been looking at c6 convertibles for a few months. My buddy just has a cancerous mole removed and now wants to sell the camaro because of sun exposure issues. It only has 60k on it still. Unfortunately, he left it out in the elements and barely drove it, so it is not in the condition it once was. Wheels need to be re-dipped or replaced, paint is decent, but there are a few new scratches and some minor fading / oxidation, tranny whines a bit. It has an ss style fiberglass hood that the paint is abysmal on. He does still have the factory z28 hood which should be in OK condition. It also needs a new top, we quoted 1400 today.
It had 2 jl 10s in custom box. Sub's and amp were ruined from leak from top. Interior is still in pretty good shape except dash is now cracked. Headlights are oxidized. Engine is quiet and strong. Tranny may have minor issues with 3-4 synchro. Drove it today and didn't have an issue, but have seen it before.
The question is, what should I pay if interested? I like the idea of getting my old car back. Also like the idea of paying cash instead of financing. I just don't know what I should pay. I don't want to insult him, but to get it to the condition I would want is going to take some bucks.
What do you guys think? I have a number in my head but don't want to influence any responses.

The LS1 owners have abandoned this site. Id say 95% of the activity is LT1. I keep trying to get some LS1 owners, 3rd Gen owners, V6 owners, etc. to help out, and there are a few that have responded, but you're right - ain't what it used to be.
When it comes right down to it, I'm probably the only active moderator, and there's a limit to what one person can do.

not sure on values of the 98s and up. I prefer the 95-97. on a 2002 with 60k though I would guess in very good condition to have a value of around 8k. With the condition you described though, friend or not he will be insulted with what I would offer. It seems to need about 3k in repairs just to get it into good shape. So I would maybe start around 3.5k, but wouldn't pay anything above 5k.
