then go to part numbers.

its not listed, and I have yet to find anyone that says it has an alumium.

I crawled under my car and its steel. and I know he didnt change that like he did the koni's (I hate people that change parts with inferier ones)

I say if you are gonna be making serious power - ditch any stock driveshaft.

I have seen a couple of aluminum ones twisted out of LS1's with not much done...just a good bite and lucky rear-end I suppose...it at the dragstrip both times. They are EXTREMELY thin though - I would think any high HP application should just get a stronger/aftermarket one.

I would still use it if I were you though - and sell the steel one - I wouldn't pass it off as useless.

This largest advantage is the fact the the aluminum is balanced, your steel one is not. Swap it in there and see if you notice a difference, especially at high speed. Takes about 5 minutes to swap.

Do the aluminum shafts still use a steel end for the U-joints? I think I've heard that they will break where that steel end meets the aluminum tube? Steel driveshafts can have the U-joints fail obviously, but I think they would be less prone to "break" compared to an aluminum shaft. They can twist, but aluminum breaks easier I think?

I don't care about that extra few pounds............just make more power, and you won't notice your steel driveshaft.

Correct me if I asm wrong here, but while there are instances of LS1 aluminum driveshaft failures reported, I have yet to come across a 1LE failure?

I can't speak for the 1LE shaft, but as I posted a few posts back...I've had my LPE 3.5" aluminum behind 420rwhp since 1995. and have never replaced or had to rebalance anything...plus it shed a few pounds off of the rotating mass. I know that A4s are generally easier on the driveline, but my 60's are always in the 1.60-1.70 range....over the last 10 years I've gotten my $350 worth

less rotational mass.Much lighter than stock.

There was a guy with a stock LS1 Firehawk with DR's that snapped his aluminum DS. Just too much grip. Once he got it fixed, he found out his rear also went bye-bye
