What happend to these jack points?
Hello,
I was the original owner of this 1996 SS. I recently got it back, and noticed that the jack points seem to be messed up. I do not see any rust, but they are just bent. The undercarriage is very dirty in the pics. I know it looks like rust, but it isnt. Is it safe to jack to car in these points? To my knowledge, the car only saw one winter back in 1996. I am pretty sure the last owner never had it out during the winter based on a mutual friend. Thanks for your info.

your not supposed to jack on the pinch weld use the more solid part of the frame a little further in. many people do jack on the pinch weld but thiss is what ususally happens. someone will bring up that the factory jack is supposed to go on the pinch weld. it dose because it lifts straight up and has a notch for the weld so you wont crush it. a floor jack has no notch and has an arc as it lifts up.
bend the metal back straight with some vise grips and use the correct lift points.
make shure not to use the pad that says not a lift point even though its so tempting.

There is a black plastic block behind where the fender bolts in under the car. Jack up on that block. In the rear use either the axle or where the lower control arm bolts into the frame.
Unfortunately a lot of shops dont know this. Maybe you can bend it back with a pliers.

The OPs problems is that those places that are messed up are not jack points.
