Reminds me of a customer I had when I worked at Kragen's years ago while I was in college. This mexican guy comes in looking for parts for his 1978 Ford Trans Am. I'm like, "don't you mean Pontiac Trans Am?" He's like "No, Ford TRANS AM". After about a minute of back-and-forth, I ask, "is the car here?". He said, "yes, out front". So I walked out front to find a 1978 Ford Granada... which had "Firechicken" stickers slapped on the c-pillars and a "TRANS AM" windshield sunshade.

I hope he didn't buy it thinking it actually was a Trans Am.

Actually I think you Walmart service man needs to visit the optical department. The 9 was probably a 4. That would make it a small Chev known as the Cavaliar Z24. A decaled up 2 door 4 cylinder with a Z hung on it.

Re: What is a "Camaro Z29"?

Just to let you guys know RPO Z29 was the GT option on the Vega from 1971 to 1977. I owned a 67 Z28 for 8 years back in the day and raced it on Woodward Ave many times ) have to settle for cruising in my 2000 m6 Z28 now!

Re: What is a "Camaro Z29"?

[QUOTE=pgraves;4913762]I was recently having keys made for my 95 camaro at Wal-mart. When I handed him the key and told him it was a 95 Camaro (it's all computerized, so he was looking up what key to use) he then asked me if it was a Z28 or a Z29. I responded that mine was just the simple base V6 camaro and that to my knowledge there was no such thing as a "Camaro Z29". He then responded rather quickly that "YES, There IS!".

I asked him was a "Z29" camaro was and he then stated that it is a "smaller camaro". I asked him if he meant engine wise or body-style and he replied that the Z29's have a smaller body (supposedly they're LITERALLY a "smaller camaro").

I stopped arguing and decided to google a little bit. So far I have found several references to the Camaro Z29. Most of which seemed to be typos, a few seemed to be referencing an SS Camaro.

I know I don't know much about this subject, but IF there is such a thing as a Z29, my suspicion is that it isn't like the Wal-mart guy says. I highly doubt that there is a midget-sized camaro running around, but who knows.

Let me know what a Z29 Camaro is guys so I can put this to rest [/QUOTE. Yes GM did produce a limited number of Z29s in the early 80s. Im thinking between 82-84. I know this because when I was looking for a new 1984 Z28 they had a new Z29 right beside the Z28 I ended up buying. It was basically a Z28 with a few modifications. There wasn't enough difference in the two to really be noticed without going under the hood and some interior differences other than the Z28 symbols were replaced with Z29 symbols. If I had of known at the time I definitely would have paid the price difference and bought the Z29. I didn't even think or know about how rare they were. But to answer your questions YES Z29s do exist. I hope this helps.
