Turn signal switch, or the turn signal flasher?

If you cannot locate the turn signal switch on your own, well, I don't know what to tell you

The flasher is located behind the dash, just to the right of the steering column.

I know where the switch and flasher are located. I was more asking how to go about changing the control because someone told me the steering column has to be compressed to do it? also does this sound like what the issue is or no?

Im pretty sure that when I switch mine on and a front bulb is burned out, the rears light up solid. No quick flash like most new cars.

So, this might sound silly, but did you replace the bulbs?

This is a great write up on how to tear the whole column down off Fiero Forum.

What has to be compressed is the lockplate spring, which will allow you to remove the snap ring that holds on the lock plate, and go from there.

I agree that bulbs, or bad contacts in the bulb holders, would be the more likely cause.

However, you can unplug your turn signal switch at the bottom of the column & plug in a new one w/o doing any damage and trouble shoot that way.

Of course, that assumes that you have access to a working switch ...

Good Luck !

Britt

it would be the easiest thing to check. and Im almost positive thats how mine act (on a firebird, but should be the same). I have no housings for my bulbs, so the air can get to the innercoolers better.

so the wiring and the bulbs are just tucked up in with the airdam, bumper and stuff. and I know when a frt bulb is out, to let people behind me know that I am turning; I have to manually click the stalk on and off to make it cycle. and the bulbs go bad a lot due to vibration, and water. lol.

Possibly. Or... The front turn signal sockets have a nasty habit of picking up moisture. They contacts in the sockets corrode, usually on the ground side, and cause all sorts of weird problems. It may not be your problem, but checking that first is easier than pulling the column apart.

I think that it's time to move this from engine tech to general tech so that you can ignore the advice of those folks too.

I went through this on my 97 Z28 with the front turn signals. I spliced in new front TS bulb sockets (they were badly corroded), you can get them at AutoZone for about 8.00 each. I also went ahead and replaced the bulbs also.
Is the problem with the 93 or 98? I ask because the later model cars have daytime running lights and there is a DRL module behind the radio. I still had problems with the signals and had the option of replacing the module or just unplugging the blue connector from the module and let it hang. I priced the module (250.00) so my plug is hanging.
The drl's wont work but no more signal problems.

Especially with the cost of bulbs, it'd be foolish to start tearing into anything else without at least checking them first. Most cars, as stated, the rest of the blubs won't act properly if another is blown.

Had this exact same problem on mine. Replaced the front bulbs and was good to go. Does the arrow on your dash just stay on without flashing when you turn the signal on. Sounds like your bulbs are bad. Replace them first. Its cheap!!!!!
