TRIP meter doesnt work?

TRIP meter doesnt work?
Odd question: my trip meter hasnt worked since I've got my car. Odometer works fine, but the trip meter doesnt. It goes up 0.1 miles every 50 miles or so. Anyone have any insight? (analog gauges)

Had a problem with my trip odo once. It would go up to 9/10 and then not click over the next digit. One of the gears had a crack in it and was slipping on the shaft. I was going to try to get a new gear, but the shop I went to was closed that day. I ended up repairing the gear enough to make it work again. You can take that stuff apart, but you have to be real careful with it.
