Traction Control in a 1994 Camaro???
Ok here is my problem. I was on a back road and I got the urge to do a smokey burn out. I let the clutch out, the tires were smokin...I then wanted to stand still and keep the smokin, but when I hit the brake the "LOW TRAC" light came on and it basically killed my motor. (All of this happend within like 6 seconds)
I have a 1994 Camaro Z28 with a 6 spd. I thought Traction Control didn't come on these cars?
Can anybody help
Thanks

The "LOW TRAC" light comes on when the ABS activates.
TCS was advertised in the brochures for the 94's, but was never actually available, except possibly VERY late in the production year. It was generally available on the 95's and newer.

Re: Traction Control in a 1994 Camaro???
abs activates because it senses wheel slip from the rear tires. its function is to alert drivers to low traction situations(ie black ice). ABS is kind of a misnomer because it actually does so much more than pulse the brake on a locked wheel, and the "low trac" light is one of those instances. ABS is constantly 'active', its just that you don't know until it actuates something like a light or pulses the brakes.

Oh I think I'm understanding now..... Does anybody else ever have that problem when doing a burn out in a M6? Or was I doing the burnout wrong...is there a better way to do it so ABS isnt activated?
Thanks

Re: Traction Control in a 1994 Camaro???
I'd guess that the ABS computer saw the rear tires still moving, assumed that was the correct velocity of the vehicle, and at the same time saw the rotational velocity of the front wheels approaching "0", and activated the ABS to keep the front brakes from locking.
Interestingly, when you do a burnout by using a line lock on the front brakes, the "LOW TRAC" light doesn't come on... at least mine never did. The "BRAKE" light will come on because of the different pressure in the front and rear braking circuits.

Re: Traction Control in a 1994 Camaro???
I've had the low trac light come on at the drag strip after doing burnouts on a couple occasions, then it would basically kill all my power (the one time I ran an 18 second 1/4 mile and got my *** kicked by a civic ). Sounds like a similar scenario. Would pulling the ABS fuse (just at the track) work to prevent this?
