Towing

I've searched and searched, but can't seem to find anything on this topic. I'm having a buddy of mine tow my Z to his place (he has a nice big comfy shop compared to my driveway) so I can do my head gasket repair/head swap. Is there anything specific to worry about when towing these cars? We were just going to put the front wheels on a dolly and go...only about a ten mile trip and no major highway. We're doing this at 4pm today so any advice would be appreciated...I don't want to have tranny/rear-end problems, I've already spent all my money on everything else!

There's nothing to be afraid about towing on a flatbed.

I wouldn't use the wheel-lift tow trucks though...

Pull the drive shaft and plug the back of the trans so it does not leak all over the place. You should be fine. Putting the car in neutral and towing it, I have heard, can cause potential issues with the tranny if the pump is not operating. Then again, I see tow trucks do it all the time.

Pull the drive shaft. The output shaft on the transmission isnt properly lubricated if the pump is not running. Your rear end will be fine

Leave the DS on and lift the rear wheels....

After reading your replies and some stuff in the oem manual, we may lift the rear wheels and tow that way...I have literally 8 miles of backroad to go..we should be able to stay around 35 mph or less. The only thing that concerns me doing it that way is the steering column...seems there are two schools of thought, of course. Some say to keep the ignition in the "off" position, locking the column, others say to keep it in acc so the wheels CAN turn. Thanks for the replies guys!

Locked and straight ahead. If you tow with the front up the rear are locked striaght ahead...
