Torn Oil Pan Gasket?

Torn Oil Pan Gasket?
I took the timing cover off last night to replace the seals, and the oil pan gasket stayed with the timing cover (looks like RTV had been applied and the gasket stuck to the cover):
Leaving this behind on the car:
I've never had the timing cover off myself so I'm not 100% sure, but I think the LT1 has a one piece gasket, correct? Years ago, Joe Prince did some work on my car and had the timing cover off. I'm assuming it tore then and he just RTV'd it up. Taking the cover off last night, I felt no resistance of the gasket tearing, and you can see the RTV squeezing out between the cover and the gasket in the first picture. I've had horrible oil leaks for years, so this is all starting to make more sense.
So it now looks like everything else, I'll now be dropping the oil pan. I should have bought stock in FelPro before starting this project...

Re: Torn Oil Pan Gasket?
Mr. Gasket does make and sell a 3 piece for the LT1. however your mechanic may have cut the one piece to avoid removing the pan completely. then to prevent leaks used alot of RTV
