Re: Is SS worth it?

I paid 14k for mine. Got a good deal i think. I love the color, espically when its clean! The NBM shines up nice. Go for it, you wont be disappointed.

Re: Is SS worth it?

Stock vs stock, the only thing that will make an SS faster than a Z28 is the driver

There is a lot more to performance then just hp and even then the SS could have some of the optional SLP equipment that would certainly give it a edge over a Z28, as far as hp the only standard difference is the exhaust.

If you just want to make track monster the Z28 might be a better choice for you.

Re: Is SS worth it?

all in your preference man.
I bought an SS cause I wanted an SS. I knew I wouldn't modify it. I knew it would be what it was from the factory til I die (no its never for sale)

If wanted to mod the car I would have bought a Z28 and gone insane. I have the $ to modify the SS, but have no interest.

If you want a modded SS great, lets see it.
if you want a camaro to modify and don't care that its an SS, go Z28. The Z28 is awesome, odds are if I were to clone me and race my SS with a Z28. It'd be neck and neck (save for one didn't make a mistake) anyhow....

SS's are harder to find, if you want Ttops stick with looking for Z28, I wanted Ttops, but at the last minute decided It didn't matter to me. I wanted the SS.

good luck

Re: Is SS worth it?

I like the looks of the SS and would put the hood and Spoiler on Z28 but not SS badges.

Re: Is SS worth it?

Do NOT buy an SS for performance reasons. I've had 3 SS 4th gens and 5 non SS 4th gens. I still have 2 4th gen SSs and 2 Z28s. The SSs are very cool. The Z28s are very cool. If you like the look of the SS then get it. If you intend on getting an SS hood and spoiler then just get the SS. If you are only about performance and can get a Z28 for a good price then get the Z28 and put the SS appearance stuff on it. If you can get a good deal on an SS then get it. Bottom line... buy the good deal

Re: Is SS worth it?

Performance wise they are pretty much the same.

IMO for the difference in looks alone its worth it. Of course I'm somewhat biased

Re: Is SS worth it?

I am completely happy with my '02 Z28.

I do like the SS hood and spoiler, though.

Re: Is SS worth it?

I bought my 2000 Z28 M6 w/ 19,500 on the clock for $19,000... that was in January 2003. She's now got 23K on the clock. (I've been here in Germany for 2 years and didn't bring my car....long story)

I would have liked and SS... It's just something about the lettering..... something about those letters..... SS I like it..

The Stock Z28 LS1 makes 330HP and the SS has 345HP I think it's something w/ the cam... not sure what they did. Mabie a slight lift change..

It is because of the SLP exhaust, and the ram air

Re: Is SS worth it?

Chevy's claimed numbers were 305-310 for the Z28 and 320-325 for the SS (the higher numbers for the '01 and '02 models). The SS's only power adders were the exhaust and the ram air intake.

From what I hear, the difference between a Z28 and an SS is more like 5hp than the claimed 15, not to mention that they tend to make 305-310 at the wheels, which would indicate a crank horsepower more like 340.
