Re: Smog pump check valve

One on my 98 was "impossible" to remove also. I removed the pipe from the exhaust manifold, cut a slot in the end of the valve with a hacksaw and it loosened enough to unscrew it. But my car has an LS1 and the connection of the pipe to the manifold is easier to disconnect. If you can't remove the pipe, you could use a cut-off disk to cut the slot. But don't go so deep as to seriously damage the pipe threads. The piece in the photo was cut off the valve first for better access with the saw.
