security system problem

I am having a problem with the factory security system on a 2001 camaro. For some reason the security system goes off when I unlock and open the door. The battery was recently replaced and I noticed that the security light stays on the dash when the car is running. How would I fix the security system so it stops acting up.

Re: security system problem

How are you opening the door? If you use the door key it'll go off a few seconds later if you don't get the ignition key in quick. By security light on the dash you mean the cluster light or the LED? Just a couple questions since no one has responded.

Re: security system problem

I was opening the door using the key when the alarm would go off. The security light in the gauge cluster is the one that stays on. So it is normal for the alarm to go off if you use the door key to unlock the door?

Re: security system problem

It is normal for it to go off after useing the door key after a few second delay - alarm thinks the window was down and someone just opened the door for example. It's not normal for the security light to remain on under other conditions. Sounds like the BCM isn't recognizing the pelet key value. Try not arming the alarm (use the manual slide locks) then use the door key and see what happens. If the security light is still on a VATS bypass or cyl repair might be necessary to resolve it.

Re: security system problem

Now, somehow the gauge needle has gotten stuck all the way down past the 120 mph mark. I have no clue how this could possibly happen. I do remember the security system acting up and moving the gauge needles back and forth. I will try not arming the door and see if the security light stays on. I am also going to get a new key fob and see what happens because the one I have now doesnt work.
