secondary air injection

secondary air injection
I have an lt1recently rebuilt. The pipe that comes off the exhaust manifold is cut and welded shut. Ive heard that without it, it can't pass smog. I've looked everywhere for a replacement and I've had no luck. Any answers?

Re: secondary air injection
Welcome to CamaroZ28.com!!!
What year is your engine? There are three different configurations used for the secondary air injection ("AIR") system on the LT1:
93 - single connection on top of driver's side manifold, "shared" (EGR and AIR) connection on #8 runner on passenger side manifold.
94/95 - single connection on top of both driver side and passenger side manifolds, M22 threads.
96/97 - single connection on top of both driver side and passenger side manifolds, M18 threads.
Or are you possibly referencing the corrugated EGR tube that runs from #8 on the passenger side exhaust manifold to the back of the intake manifold?

If you could post a picture it might make it easier to find you a replacement.

Re: secondary air injection
Thank you. It's a 93. I can't find the replacement anywhere, it's the tube that comes off the exhaust manifold on the drive side. I'm not sure where it leads to since the previous owner cut it and welded it shut. But it goes towards the back of the engine

This will show the line you are looking for:
Courtesy of Shoebox
I found this photo of the components that were removed from a 93 when they deleted AIR/EGR.

Re: secondary air injection
You need to start at the AIR pump (part #18 in the Nalley diagram), and verify that you have every piece from the AIR pump all the way to the connection on the back of the intake manifold and the passenger side exhaust manifold. The system won't work if you don't have all the parts.

Re: secondary air injection
There are a number of pieces, fittings and form fitted hoses that would probably work best. The vague nature of what you need (and no pictures) makes it hard to say what might work for you.

Re: secondary air injection
I found this picture on the internet. From the Nalley and Shoebox's diagrams, there is a "tee" at the drivers side AIR connection. A rubber hose runs from that "tee", to the assembly on the back of the intake manifold/passenger exhaust manifold. You can see the hose coming down the driver side valve cover, turning the corner, and attaching to the plastic tee near the EGR valve.
The hose is not subjected to extreme heat, as long as the check valves do not leak and allow exhaust gas to flow into the system. It's carrying the air from the AIR pump.

Re: secondary air injection
I have a 93 with the secondary AIR removed, and I haven't had an issue passing emissions in Texas. Not sure where you're located, but thought I'd add to maybe avoid you buying needless parts
