Reverse lights out

Reverse lights out
I have a 99 Z with 6 spd and since the car was new the reverse lights ony worked if you kept moving the shifter around. When new I returned it to the dealer to correct it but the mechanic wanted to dismantle my console and I told them to forget it. I feared a butcher job. Now its 11 years old with 4,000 miles on it and they don't work at all. The car is kept in a climate controlled garage so oxidation shouldn't be the problem. Any tips on where to look? Thanks

There is nothing he's going to be able to see by dismantling the console. The entire shift linkage is internal to the tranny. All he will find is a rectangular plate with the shift lever pivot on it, and four bolts holding it on the top of the tranny. As noted above, the reverse light switch is mounted on the passenger side of the T56. Its the only electrical device on that side. All the other stuff (VSS, reverse lockout and skip shift) is on the driver's side.
