removing heat shield

I have a 95 z28 and there is a squeaking coming from under the car I dont think its any of the bushings or springs but i may be wrong and its no the shocks cause there new. I think my edlebrock exahust is rubbing up against the heat shield, the part that beind up around the wheel well over the axle. Could this be the problem anyone else have this exhaust and have this problem, and can i remove that heat shield without doing damage to my car. Is it that nessisary? Thanks.

that would make a banging or clanking. not a squeak.

removing it would resultin your exhaust heating your fuel tank.

im pretty sure thats what it is though i think its just rubbing and causing a squeak like the two a sitting right next to each other rubbing and when i hit a bump or someting the metal rubbing on metal is making a squeaking noise. You think of anything else it could be? this has given me some trouble for awhile, so it wouldnt be a good idea to take off the heat shield i didnt think it was that close to the gas tank but your probably right im gunna go back under there the next chance i get. thanks for the response.

Yank the heat shield off all its good for is rattles. Its 1 of the 1st things Ive done to every F- body Ive owned especially my 96 and 98. Its up front not near the gas tank.

Yeah, I was wondering if that was even a heat shield when I put on my headers. I kept wondering why would they put a heat shield there. I kept them off.

yea i dont think you guys are talking about the same one I am. Its right about the axle off centered to the right. Its where the exhaust goes over the axle and near the underpart of the car.

Correct, we were talking about the placement of the heat shields on LS1s and you are talking about the placement on LT1s.

OOOOOOopppppppps my bad Id still rip out any heat shields regardless of engine. They only rattle and make other noises. If its a shield near the tank use a good muffler tape or other type of heat insulator. The mesh shield blow goatz My 2 cents worth.
