Pulley noise? 2000 SS 5.7

I just finished writing a thread about my AC problem but now I have another. Just put in a new water pump and belts. Started squeal again. I'm thinking its a pulley anyway to pinpoint which one without taking out the pump

2000 SS CAMARO 5.7 ls1

Re: Pulley noise?

You need to add a "signature" so people know which engine you have. Go to "UserCP" on the red bar at the top of any screen, left click and follow, steps to the "edit signature" screen.

Re: Pulley noise?

I'm picking up little noise myself at idle.Might be the belt tension er.I hope that's all it is and not the alternator.Gonna spray a little wd40 on it and see if that helps.My02

I did wd40 before I change the belts and even the spray that's meant to remove the noise but still didn't work. I guess I'm happy the car is running now but an annoying noise in guessing maybe gonna take off the belts and look at each pulley and see if I can locate which one, possible the one that goes to the AC and that's why my AC stopped working - kill two birds with one stone hopefully. Mine used to be at idle mostly but now actually louder everytime I step on the gas

Re: Pulley noise?

These cars are 22 years old and I ain't gonna replace the air conditioner condenser So if that's what's going out now i will disconnect all air conditioning stuff and try to find an LE1 belt to take it's place.I'll bet that's what it is.My02

Not "an LE1 belt".... you need a 1LE A/C delete pulley. Whether the belt will need to be replaced depends on the specifics of the clutch pulley diameter on your compressor... appears there were two different diameters used.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the Lt1 Camaros only have one belt that goes around the whole system. I remember when I had a 94 Camaro the guy said the AC didn't work so he had another belt put in that wasn't as long so it didn't go around the AC. I think with my Ls1 it has two belts, a separate smaller one for the AC.

Re: Pulley noise?

You are correct. LT1 has one belt, LS1 has two. I would loosen the A/C drive belt and see if the noise goes away. I'm thinking there may be something wrong with the A/C compressor clutch.
