Here's a good source for actual dyno tests on a lot of the popular bolt-ons:

WS6.com Dyno Tests

He saw 0.7 peak HP gain with a U/D pulley, although the average gain was 4.4HP and 5+ lb-ft of torque.

why loose your charging capacity and cold AC for a few HP? I wouldn't recommend it.

I have had my ASP Pulley balancer combo on the car since 1996...no charging or AC issues, the car does idle at 900rpm, though. Got 5 rwhp...A little hp here a little there...it all adds up...1/2 car length could just be the difference....

I had the ASP 25% U/D crank pulley and 15% U/D alternator pulley. There was no measurable affect on A/C or power steering (I think slowing the PS down probably helps extend the life). However, with stock M6 idle at 800rpm, in hot weather, stop-n-go traffic, with the headlights or brake lights on, the volt meter would drop into the red. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the headaches. I do still use the U/D alternator pulley with my ATI SuperDamper, because I figure the alternator really doesn't need to handle the loads of a 7,000+rpm redline. Plus the car never gets driven on the street any more.
