the guy wrote higher miles than the car really has and now the title shows the higher miles. I need to put the odometer to match the title or DMV will suspect I turned it back.
Anybody know how to roll miles ahead on a 94/95 odometer?

I dont see why you couldnt take it to say a dealership and have them write up a letter saying that it wasnt tampered with. Then take that letter into the DMV and say there was an error somewhere filing paperwork and they need to reissue your title with the correct mileage.

Otherwise I guess you could drive it around a lot.

How many miles are we talking about here?

Don't understand. The DMV doesn't come out and actually look at the car, they have no way of knowing the actual mileage. When you transfer the title you swear that the mileage is correct. If it's not you can write "mileage unknown" or correct it and initial the correction, or some other procedure. Ask the girl at the DMV.

TMU - "true mileage unknown" is a huge huge sale drop when buyers think it could have a million miles. DMV does look at the car for inspection here and if I put lower miles on paper than my title reads - the clerk will want to reject it or put TMU. The are NOT the kind to work with me
It's at 68,000 and title says 81,000

Well, I'm obviously NOT from CT, but I've never heard of a state where you had to take your title in for an inspection???
Again, people make mistakes, the DMV has to have a system for correcting this. I would at least call and ask.

It's a horror show here. Trying to get it corrected puts them into full suspision that I set the odometer back. They'lll want the guy in person and the car to verify everything. It's just easier to put the miles where the paper says ans slip right through.

If its on the bill of sale, just make a new one. Yea, they inspect the odometer here too. I went to plate/register/title my new car and some other guy was having an issue with the mileage on his car and paperwork.

on the title - can't change it. They are always suspisious so then NOTHING on the car gets by.....

If it is so strict, how did it get by the first time and get the incorrect number put on the title?

guy buys the car with a title and odometer reading 65,xxx miles. He must fill out temp paperwork and get an emmissions inspection. It passes - he fills out perm papers with the wrong miles. Papers go through. He gets an emmissions test a year later and a true odometer reading shows only a few hundred miles less than the odometer now - looks fine. He fails emissions, lets the tag expire and sells the car. 9 months later, I look at the car and failed emmissions papers and buy the car. He breaks out the title he received months after he registered the car. I'm the first guy to match the title to the odometer. He wrote way more miles on the title application in the DMV and that's what they printed.

It is DEAD easy to change the odometer mechanism itself.

I bought an instrument cluster from a 1995 for my 1994 car that had the speedometer that reads 240 vs. my 94's 180. I disassembled the cluster and swapped out the odometer meters so that it would be accurate.

Took all of 20 minutes. So I have an odometer that reads 65,000 kms if anybody wants.
