No rear bumper in Illinois???

Anyone know if there are any laws regarding not having a rear bumper on a car in Illinois? I'm taking mine off my 97z to be refinished and want to know if I should drive it while it's gone? It'll look dumb as hell, but I need a ride. heh. Thanks!

I think they're probably illegal anywhere. Some cars aren't as noticable without them so they don't get harrassed too much. Since an F-body would look very very odd without one I bed you'd get noticed. Bolt a piece of wood across the back to do a makeshift bumper. I've seen people do that and get away with it. Now that'd look really really ghetto but it just might work. How long will you be without the bumper?

Are you taking the whole bumper of,or just the piece to be repainted, the bumper cover?

A buddy of mine, down in Illinois, by St. Louis, about 30 miles east took his front ont off, taped up his parking lights and put on his license plate, and asked a cop and he said it was legal
