Newer steering column possible?

Can I use a newer style steering column? My current one is out since the ignition switch broke as well as both black and blue pig tail connectors have some burn marks i'd like to replace (with new). I have successfuly disabled the pass key system by using the resistor that came out of my key. Will connectors be differnt or will the newer style airbag function?

I broke the 3d jigsaw puzzle of the turn signal. That is my main reason for replacing it. I should not have been in there in the first place . There is also rust I dont like and rather get one away from the salt belt.

Also I have a broken clock spring. Gmpartsdirect does not seem to have them. Are they sold elsewhere.

Oh and it used to be a automatic. Could I use a column from a manual?

Thanks for any help

Not exactly an "engine" topic... let's move this to the correct forum.
