So... No lemon laws, dealership won't do anything, and now it's in a shop because I got stranded. They say I need a whole new ignition system and it's going to run me around 1000 dollars.. Is there any way to do this cheaper? I don't have that type of money.

It won't start at all, no noises, no keys working, everything they've tested wasn't it so far, I'm already in 200 dollars for a service charge, let alone the other charge I can't afford. They said there's resistance in key but no resistance in the steering column.

Re: New owner to Z28, Need advice!

So they are saying it needs the ignition cylinder or ignition system. Sounds like a VATS issue then

Plus it's like ten degrees here out here. And my dad won't go out in the cold. I have no real knowledge.

Yeah, they're saying it's needing a whole new ignition system/keys.

Re: New owner to Z28, Need advice!

It's not reading anything at the base of the steering column, the ignition is worn out/bad and won't read the key to send the message through the security system to turn the motor over. They say I need a new ignition and key. Which is supposed to be around 1000 dollars.

PCM, not security system.

Read this and then try the resistor bypass. A couple of bucks will be all you need to spend.

Re: New owner to Z28, Need advice!

Anyone suggest ignition switch yet? Those commonly burn out on the camaro's after that amount of time. If it was a vats problem, the "Security" light should be blinking at least because it wouldn't be able to read the resistance, but it should still give power to the dash at least. Shoebox has a great write up on it. Credit goes to him for the following link.

Thanks for posting. I notice that your IP address traces to Hanoi, Viet Nam. Are there many Camaros in Hanoi? We would really like to learn more.
