New members Read: Top 5 LT1 mods in order

I was thinking about trying to get a sticky going for this room. The top 5 best mods for LT1 cars. Maybe there is a better thread somewhere else? If so forget about this. I was thinking:

1)Cold air
2)Catback
3)Gears
4)Headers
5)Tuning

You could then go on farther to be specific with brands and personal experience. What brands work well for you? What didnt? Etc.

I would personally put headers before catback because you get more bang, but yeah thats about it

is this just for performance mods? because as old as these cars are getting, there are typically other things that need to be done first.. supporting mods if you will.

fuel pump
clutch(if m6)
opti
waterpump
torque converter(if auto)

why try to make more power when the lackluster stock parts could possibly be having problems reaching max. potential with it stock? also, i'd take gears off the list and add sfc's.. but thats me..

You have a pretty good list assembled there. As for personal experience with brands, here it goes in accordance with your list:
1)Cold air intake=Moroso
2)Catback= Magnaflow
3) Gears= haven't done them yet, will do them when I purchase a 12-bolt or 9inch
4)Headers=coated Pacesetter longtubes with off-road y-pipe
5)Tuning=Madz28.com

I think we can all agree that out of that whole list, the headers will add arguably the best gains. However, when it comes to the installation process, I think most people are steered towards doing a cold air intake and a catback first because of the simplicity involved.

Thanks, I'm looking for info like that. How much should all of those repairs run?

1) free mods $0-$10
2) Cold Air Intake $150-$200
3) Catback $300-$400

these 3 are by far the cheapest and easiest way to free up at least 20-25 HP and won't create much down time so is ideal for a daily driver.

1) Cat-back (so it sounds like you are going fast)
2) Headers (sound again, but they go together)
3) 160* thermostat with a Cold-air intake or a Short Throw Shifter
4) Mail-order Tune
5) Springs and Roller Rockers to prepare yourself for a cam, and to get yourself over working on the internals of your engine.

Just my two pennies

Why would you want to put headers on and then restrict the gains with a stock exhaust? I would do the catback, first. I would also put the gears at #4. Gears don't make your car faster until the engine can make use of the RPMs. It will breath better once the headers are on.

I would have to say the following:

1) tune
2) CAI
3) Sticky tires
4) short throw shifter or converter
5) gears
6) catback
7) headers

I know its more than 5 things, but after all that I've done to my car this is definitely the order I would start out in.

I agree that a tune will help a lot. However, wouldnt you want to get your mods first......then have the car tuned to those mods specifically?

The e-mail tune packages are the way to go. Just buy the cable and get a retune for each mod that requires.

EDIT: the re-tunes are $25 apparently, but still worth it imo.
