Need gasoline-safe thread/wire

I'm replacing the fuel pump in the next couple days, and I know my sending unit arm needs to be repaired. It works perfectly fine, but the small clips that hold the arm onto the sending unit are broken off. My thought is to save the cost of a new sending unit and attach the arm to the unit by tight-wrapping it in some form of wire or string. Does anyone know of anything that would not be corroded by gas and would stay strong to keep it tied together?

Nylon wire ties are fine with gasoline. Be careful to not use other materials, like PVC.
