Major Fuel Problems (pump and gauge)
Hi everything, first of all thanks in advance for any help or advice with my car.
I have a 91 camaro rs w/ 5.0L, headers, high rise cam computer chip, and aluminum intake. This car has been sitting up for about 3 months without being used, last time it was used, the gas gauge was not working, but the motor ran fine. When I had gone to start it up, the battery was completely dead, i jumped it with my pickup truck, and got enough juice in the battery for the engine to turn without any problems except for the fact that it wouldn't actually fire over. When you turn the key to the on position, they car will make a humming noise from the front of the car, but shouldn't I hear a noise from the back near the gas tank? I tried taking the air intake cover off and dropping a bottle cap full of gas in the intake, then it fired over for a second until it burned that gas off.
Would this be a good sign that I need a new fuel pump for my camaro? or could it be something else?
Plus how can i fix the fuel gauge?

Here's help on a 4th Gen fuel gauge... may help you with your earlier model. Courtesy of Shoebox:

For the fuel supply issue, put a pressure test gauge on the rails and see what kind of pressure you are getting. Is it the TPI or TBI version of the 5.0?

TBI, where do you get one of these pressure test gauges? and where do i hook it up to? near the fuel filter or near the throttle body? I had read something earlier about a Schrader Valve, but i had looked all over and could not find it. Maybe just on newer models?

The TPI version has rails and most likely a Schrader valve. It operates at 43.5psi. The TBI setup will just have a line like a carb, and operates at low pressure (9-13psi). I just don't know anything about the details of the TBI versions.
