Lumbar hoses

Lumbar hoses
I have a set of 1995 Trans am seats currently in my 1997 Trans am. I had a 98 parts car and kept the seat harness from it. Which I am sure will work fine. I just need some help plumbing in the lumbar hoses. I took the seats out today and had a look. The air pump is located under the drivers side seat, and it has four hoses coming from it. And the passengers side has two (in and out). I need some help with the drivers side plumbing. I don't understand why there is four hoses? I was expecting one in and one out?? If someone would show me a picture or diagram of how to plumb it that would be awesome!! Thanks so much!

Re: Lumbar hoses
Looking at the factory manual, section 10-10, there should be three hoses entering the driver's seat, and three hoses entering the passenger seat. One hose in each seat supplies air to the lumbar bladder, and two hoses in each seat supply air to the left and right lateral support bladders.
I suspect that although it is not shown in the manual that I can see, the two hoses for the two lateral support bladders are "t"d before the pump.
See if that's the way it works.
As Rob's schematic shows, air enters and leaves the pump via the same hoses.

Ok thanks. I'll have a better look at it tomorrow and try and determine what's going on. I didn't see any other lines coming from or into the passenger seat then the one with the white connection.

Re: Lumbar hoses
Here are the undersides of the seats in my 98 TA. The driver side is power so that may be why the pump is under the passenger side in my car. The only part not shown is the hose pair that goes under the carpet between the seats.

So it appears there is four hoses on these seats in total. Two black and one clear one coming from seat. The two black ones are plugged into a controller on the bottom of each seat, then the third black one with the white clip and the clear one are leftover. I'm going to hook the two clear ones to one another and cut off those white clips and connect the two black ones together, does this seem right?

Re: Lumbar hoses
Before you start cutting, figure out what each hose is for. Use the pump (or a hand pump) to apply pressure to one hose at a time, pressing the inflate button on the seat to see what part of the seat inflates. The lumbar bladder should only have one hose. The manual shows each side support bladder has its own hose, so logically it should be possible to tee them, or they may already be teed inside the seat.
Then press the deflate button, and see where the air comes out.
Then press the deflate button, and see where the air comes out.

Re: Lumbar hoses
Yea that was my other option whether or not the clear tube and the black tube with the connector should be "t" together. Because it doesn't make sense if there is only one supply line. I'll hook it back up to my battery and see.

Re: Lumbar hoses
So a little conclusion to this. Just like Injuneer thought/stated, the two black hoses each fill and empty the side lumbars and the clear one fills the lower back lumbar. The black hose with the white connection is the supply line for all the other three hoses. I am going to "T" the clear hose into the black hose by cutting off the white connection and it should all work as I tried this today!! Thanks so much for all the help on here!
