Exclamation LPP Lts, Taylor wires. Fried boots...need a remedy.

Ok, I installed my LPP stainless steel LTs. Put on a new set of Taylor ThunderVolt 50s 10.5MM wires. Car started missing after about 200 miles so I checked it out and found a wire burnt. So I pulled all the wires and checked em. Found 3 wires in total that were fried.

The boots at the plug had Accel heat sleeves on and still managed to melt the boot. Did the Accel heat sleeve act as an oven and melt the boot?

I ordered a set of Over the Valve Cover wires and am in the process of putting them on. Before I finish it up I'm stuck with the expensive decision of putting the Accel heat sleeves on, wrapping the headers, or doing nothing. I don't want to have to go through this again in another 200 miles.

Your ideas are more then welcome. PLEASE HELP!

Why complicate things with the huge wires. 8mm is more than adequate. Then use something like the Taylor Firesleeves. I used them when I made the mistake of using the Taylor 409 wires on an LT1 with over the top plug wires, and they worked well. Use nylon ties to hold the wires/sleeves away from the headers.

Fred, I've already ordered the OVC kit from Thunder Racing (8mm). I had the Accel sleeves on the 10mm wires and with the sleeves on, they still fried. I tried looking the specs up on the Accel sleeves but cannot find the ones I bought. The sleeves had no damaged visible damage to them. Will purchasing another brand of sleeves solve my problem? I'm having a difficult time with the boots on the make your own wire kit. Any suggestions? I'm already tried using PB blaster to lube the wire when I pull it through, but it does a squeege effect and grips when the wire gets barely out of the internal portion of the boot.

The Taylor Firesleeves I used were braided fiberglass. The new ones seem like they are the same fiberglass with a silicone coating, but its hard to tell from the photos.

I had a hard time assembling the boots on the Taylor 409's. I took a drill just slightly larger than the opening, and spun it a few times to ream the opening for the wire just a bit larger. Try dielectric grease to smooth the fit.
