Lost Door Key...Will Dealership Need Lock Cylinder to Cut New Key?

The project 2000 Z28 I just bought only came with an ignition key. No key fob, no door or trunk key. I need to have a new key made, as I'm tired of opening the hatch by folding down the rear seat and using a long screwdriver.

Will the local GM dealership be able to do anything? I thought about taking one of the door lock cylinders out and taking it to them, or maybe taking the cylinder to a locksmith. I'd love to have a replacement GM key, though, instead of some off the shelf replacement.

Any ideas on whether a Chevrolet dealership would be able to help?

Any Chevrolet dealership will be able to make you a new key based off of your vin number. Just write it down, take that and proof of ownership( registration) and you're good to go

All you need to do is take your registration with the vin on it, and you ID. From vin they can give you the door key cut and the ignition key cut code and any locksmith can cut you a new keys from that.
