lookin for info

I have an 85 TA that my Mom has owned since new. I have pulled the smokin....not in a good way.......305 and am working with a guy on building a '72 350.

What headers will fit in my F body?

Hope you guys are willing to educate a chick....I have lots of offers to do it for me.... but I really want to learn so I can do some myself..... I need to learn more of your jargon.....suggestions

.......I think I'm a 16 year old boy stuck in the body of a 38 yr old woman

Your patience is appreciated!

welcome to the board. it will take a few minutes for everyone to see the post so give it some time and good luck

ps its better to be a 16 yo boy in a 30's woman than a 30's man in a 16 yo girl

as long as they heads are standard SBC (small block chevy) than any header designed for the original engine should work.

what kind of performance are you thinking of doing?

you can get shortie headers fairly easily or step up to full length long tubes which will give you the most pwer but can have issues with clearance and fittment.

feel free to ask questions and read old posts...and don't be afraid of the search button

I'm really not expecting a whole lot of performance only because I'm not dumping a ton of $.....I have a whole $450 into it right now..... Figure its gotta be better than the 305

We didn't change the cylinder size, just a little beefier cam. I need to sit and get all the specs together, I'm thinking we choose an RV cam for it, does that sound right?

.....I have an older edelbrock alum intake......not sure what I'm doing for a carb yet, My quasi mechanic is lending me one....Suggestions?

Thinking long headers....I guess that was my question on clearance.

See I don't really even know what to ask yet..

Thanks for your reply

if you aren't going anything radical...i would stick with the shorties.

and RV cam should give you good low end power, which is more fun on the street.

a mild 350 should only need a 650 or 750 carb

just make sure you pick an intake manifold that matches the rpm range of the cam...no sense having a cam that peaks at 4500 and a manifold that works best from 3000-7000rpms

definately get some specifics, and start asking away.

definately check out the 3rd gen forum, since ALOT of those guys have done swaps and upgrades

I KNOW

i just wish everyone else would open their eyes and realize it!

another thing to consider while the engine is out, is to upgrade the torque converter, one that better matches the powerband.

a little higher stall speed than stock will make the car alot more responsive to throttle and will make it suprisingly faster

it's been a while since i've messed with info on TCs...but i think stock is pretty low...below 2000rpms...so something in the mid 2500s should be good...

maybe someone else can chime in on that one...i've been a 6spd guy for a while
