Re: liscense plates

You mean the air dam for the radiator? You wouldnt be able to see it, so you would get a ticket.

Re: liscense plates

I don't have my front plate on at all and i live in ILL and its a law here to have a front plate..I havent had one for 3 years. Basically the way i see it as long as your not being stupid a cop wont bust you for something so stupid, Unless ofcourse he is having a really bad day...or maybe its just luck of the draw

Re: liscense plates

I am also in Illinois, and have not had a front license plate for 13 years. Got stopped for a speeder once and it was not even brought up. Got stopped for not having one once, and was told I should have it but that "it was up to me". and the officer sent me on my way.
Like litlbasterd said, stay cool and they will most likely leave you alone. Again, 13 years and no problem.

Re: liscense plates

Most of the time its just the car that does it. Cops are attracted to sports car and usually have a target for them. But in my area now the ricers have been attracting all of the attention and the cops have been leaving the muscle car guys alone

Totally agree

I live in South OC (CA) and of course we're required to have the front plate.

On any given day, I can count 20-30 cars on my way to work/school that do not have the front plate mounted. Mostly import cars like Toyota Camry's, Mercedes, and Hondas. My boss drives a Nissan Xterra with no front plate and has not had any problems in over 2 years.

I have a front plate, but if I took it off I would probably get pulled over 1-2 weeks afterward, simply because I drive a muscle car. It sucks but there's not a whole lot I can do about it, except move to a state that doesn't require the BS front plate like Arizona or Florida

Re: liscense plates

its all luck. I know some people here in ny who havent had a front plate in many years and have not gotten stopped. Me, ive gotten stopped for no front plate twice in my old ford thunderbird SC, and once in my camaro. Both ended up being fix-a-tickets though. I thought it was kind of cool getting pulled over in my camaro by the NYS police ls1 camaro. Wish i had a camara.

Re: liscense plates

i searched and found this thread...

Since I can't take the risk of getting pulled over...I'm looking for a front plate bracket that fits in the middle of the grill insert. Do these exist? Because I swear I've seen them on camaros before. Thanks

Re: liscense plates

My best friend drives a '95 Mustang GT with an aftermarket front bumper, and he didn't want to drill holes in it to mount the plate (I don't blame him for not wanting to do that) so he has his suction-cupped to the bottom-right side of the windshield.

He got stopped by a VA state trooper a few weeks ago for having his plate in the improper position. It sounds bogus, but I guess he was in the wrong for having it there. I still don't get that.

We need front plates here in Virginia.....it sucks, but I keep mine on. No sense in risking a stupid ticket. It's the law so I abide by it.

Another state that doesn't require front plates is North Carolina, I believe.

Re: liscense plates

Here is The Texas Law... Most States are about the same..
§ 502.409. WRONG, FICTITIOUS, ALTERED, OR OBSCURED
LICENSE PLATE. (a) A person commits an offense if the person
attaches to or displays on a motor vehicle a number plate or
registration insignia that:
(1) is assigned to a different motor vehicle;
(2) is assigned to the vehicle under any other motor
vehicle law other than by the department;
(3) is assigned for a registration period other than
the registration period in effect;
(4) is fictitious;
(5) has letters, numbers, or other identification
marks that because of blurring or reflective matter are not plainly
visible at all times during daylight;
(6) has an attached illuminated device or sticker,
decal, emblem, or other insignia that is not authorized by law and
that interferes with the readability of the letters or numbers on
the plate or the name of the state in which the vehicle is
registered; or
(7) has a coating, covering, or protective material
that:
(A) distorts angular visibility or
detectability; or
(B) alters or obscures the letters or numbers on
the plate, the color of the plate, or another original design
feature of the plate.

Re: liscense plates

I'm also in IL just out of Chicago, and have had no problems for 3 years. My car was previously owned by a cop in Indiana, and he had no front plate ever (there are no holes from screws). Is it a law in Indiana to have a front plate?
