Legality issues w/ running no cats
Hey everyone, I am from the Chicago suburbs and have to deal with emissions. I am finishing up my Pacesetter LT install along with the ORY pipe. Someone told me that they knew of a Corvette owner in Illinois that ran headers with no cats. and was fined 10,000.00 for it after being caught during an emissions inspection?? Has anybody else heard of this? Do I have certain actions that I can take if I do get caught to avoid such a fine? Thanks in advance for any thoughts offered.

The 1970 Clean Air Act prompted the development of catalytic converters, which reduce harmful vehicle emissions by as much as 90 percent. Catalytic converters cause a chemical reaction in the exhaust gases while they are within the emissions system, changing harmful emissions into relatively benign emissions.
Tampering with emission control devices (such as catalytic converters, exhaust gas recirculation valves, air pumps, etc.) is illegal. This antitampering law applies to individuals as well as to businesses. Individuals may be fined as much as $2,500 for each vehicle tampered with, and businesses are subject to fines of up to $25,000. Note that businesses that sell used vehicles must ensure that the vehicle is equipped with all emissions control devices that were originally installed by the manufacturer.

Re: Legality issues w/ running no cats
I have no problem with cats. as I know they are not robbing me of that much horsepower. The only reason why I haven't considered running them is I dont have the faintest idea on how I am going to get them in there, it just doesn't seem like much room. Also, I am worried that it will compromise my ground clearance even more. Would anybody happen to know of a cat. that will tuck up really nice and take up little space?
