left sde brake skids

left sde brake skids

hey guys, I got a problem with my brakes. the other day I was driving and someone cut me off, and i slammed the brakes.and the car did a fish tale. and the abs sensor light came on then shut off.. the left front side brake skids.so I went in a parking lot o test it again. and it does just that.. anyone know what could be causing this..i appreciate the info

Which light comes on - "ABS INOP" or "LOW TRAC" ?

I just tested it again..low trac light came on then shut off..and car still skids

That means the ABS system activated, but for some reason it could not prevent the left front brake from locking up. Were you on a hard surface or gravel at the time? Sounds like the caliper may be sticking, preventing the pressure reduction by the ABS motor from eliminating the lockup.

I would examine the front brakes for wear, noting any difference between the pad thickness, and rotor wear between the left and right brakes. A sticking caliper is going to increase pad wear.

I was on a hard surface.. regular street no gravel or rain or sand. I will check the caliper. it does look like the wheel has been covered in a lot of brake dust lately, whats a goodway to tell if the caliper is good or bad ?

The pads will be worn, possibly in a wedge shape. Compare to the right side, which does not appear to have the problem, and should have more pad left.
