Just Changed The Shifter

Just Changed The Shifter
I finally changed my shifter in my 2002 SS . I thought the hurst shifter that came with the SS was supposed to be short throw , boy was I wrong . I had changed the shifter in my 95 z28 with a hurst, what a difference . The thing kicked ***. I cant imagine what the stock shifter in a 2002 z28 must feel like . Well after searching alot of the threads you guys wrote I went with the Pro 5.0 . The shift is so short and strong , you never have to worry about missing a shift . Im not sure about the SS shifter , but this one has gear stops , so you dont break it . You can blast second gear and not worry about it at all

Re: Just Changed The Shifter
I drove a 2002 SS of my buddies the other day with the hurst shifter, and It didnt seem any better than my stock shifter. Pro 5.0's all the way! Chop the stick an inch, and its great.

Keep in mind that the "Hurst" shifter they installed at the factory was not the nice billet plus Hurst shifter you'd find in the aftermarket. They are 2 completely different shifters.

Re: Just Changed The Shifter
My only problem with the Pro 5.0 is the noise. It's not bad, but once in a while it's annoying. Basically, the gear/syncro meshing can be heard up through the shifter once in a while, and yes, I know it's installed correctly. The stops are adjusted correctly. If you look at the stock shifter, you will see a large part of the shifter arm has a isolator on it. The Pro 5.0 does not. It is a much shorter throw, especially after I cut 1" or more off the threads. You can see pics in my webpage.
The Pro 5.0 is a toss up for me. It is a much firmer/ notchier and positive shift, but it also has the drawback of noise once in a while. I love the Pro 5.0 at the 1/4 mile. The 2-3 shift can be just as fast as the 1-2 and 3-4 shift.

Re: Just Changed The Shifter
The better your shift, the less your syncro's have to work, which means less noise, and notchieness.

Re: Just Changed The Shifter
In my case, it has nothing to do with the shifts. The noise is there after the clutch has been fully released, and you give it a good amount of gas. I probably should have stated that I am hearing gear mesh/mechanical noise in the tranny. I confused you by mentioning synchro's, which would tend to make someone think that the noise is during the shift. Sorry about that.
Do you have a Pro 5.0?

Re: Just Changed The Shifter
My Pro 5.0 is VERY quiet. I had a Hurst Competition Plus before it and it was the noisiest thing I have ever heard. I wouldn't trade my 5.0 for anything. I always have wondered about the Kirban's. Has anyone ever tried one of those?
