installed fan switch - SES light

installed fan switch - SES light
okay - just installed speed specialties manual fan switch.
previously i had just tapped my fog light switch into the cooling fan relays and used that to turn my fans on at the track. But with that i was getting an SES light for cooling fan malfunction.
So i figured id order a real kit and that should take care of problem. wired it all in acording to diagrams pulling power and ground off cig lighter, and tapping into fan wires after the PCM harness. Fans work great however if car is running and i turn on highspeed fans it trips my SES light-
now in doing some research shoebox had mentioned something about needing a relay....any ideas?
its a 97 so OBDII

Re: installed fan switch - SES light
I had the same problem with my 96 SS and the Speed Specialty switch. The funny thing was it didnt trip the SES for a couple of months. It gave a code for the fan relays or something so I replaced them all with new GM pieces, didn't go away, I checked and re-soldered all the connections, still no dice, eventually I just ripped it out because it wouldn't pass inspection with the SES on.

Your switch wiring should have been constructed to keep from setting off a SES with OBD-II. I don't know what Speed Specialites does to their wiring. If they do nothing, then it will cause the SES every time you use it. Maybe they sent you a switch with wiring for OBD-I?
Resistors are needed in the wiring to keep the computer happy. They are shown in this diagram on my page for OBD-II.

ya thats what i was afraid of- when i opened the package it had instructions for OBDI even though i specified OBDII - they got back to me 2 days later and said they sent the right package but wrong instructions. ill have to get in contact with them about this- was hoping it wasnt the resistor.. i know their site states that it wont interfere with computer and the instructions say they have resistors
