I'm pretty sure it's the A/C Compressor

Well was working fine yesterday, started blowing hot air today on the way back from lunch and making a whoosh noise while on A/C - MAX. I let is sit until the end of the day and I went to turn on the A/C and the engine almost stalled. The compressor pulley spins fine with the A/C off. I removed the A/C compressor Relay to avoid this problem until I fix it. I'm guessing the 16 year old compressor siezed. Any thoughts?
