Ignition key cylinder going bad...VATS...
Well the ignition is having a harder time going into the cylinder, so I think it is going bad. Also the VATS is starting to foul up too.
How does one go about getting a replacement ignition key cylinder for the 4th gen f-body?
Is it dealer only or is there aftermarket?

AFAIK, the dealer is the only one that cut you a new key.
When you order a new cylinder, it comes with a key cut for it, but with no pellet. So you take your old key and the new one to the dealer, and they will cut you a new key with the right pellet. I think they charged me $25.

I was having VATS problems (broken white wires) so thanks to this forum...I used Shbox's site to find my key value with a multimeter:
http://www.shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#pass_key
Then went to Radioshack and made my own resistor equal to my vats key. then spliced it into the VATS connector under the dash. Viola! Car started right up. Havent had a problem since.
This solution was much easier then tearing the steering column apart to repair the broken white VATS wires.
Now my car wil start without the pellet in the key at all, even though i went to the dealer and bought a brand new pellet key for 25$. Is my car easier to steal? maybe... but now i know i wont be stranded somewhere because my VATS system crapped out on me
