Question I found my trouble code, need help!

I have a 93 camaroz28, and have finally figured out my code for my check engine light that intermitenly comes on and off. I used the paperclip technique since 93's are the only year you can do that as I found out.

Anyways, the code flash 5 times quickly, then pause, then 1once. So 51 I'm presuming? Which is PROM according to this book I have.

Any ideas on what the hell I should be checking to fix this long outstanding issue? About 6-7 years ago I did a hypertech chip so I dunno if thats going bad or what! Thanks in advance!

The manual I have indicates:

DTC 51 = Mem-Cal Error (faulty or incorrect mem-cal)

Check that all (chip) pins are fully inserted in the socket and that the mem-cal is properly latched. If OK, replace mem-cal, and recheck. If code 51 reappears, replace the ECM.

does replacing the ECM mean, replace the hypertech chip? Or is that seperate? I'm not even sure what the mem-cal is? The black box that holds all that stuff in the corner of the car?

Engine Control Module is the computer (93 only... in 94 it became the Powertrain Control Module).

Your chip is loose or damaged.

Can someone explain, or take a picture of where a hypertech chip might be placed? I'm having code 51, and wouldn't you know it, several years ago (and after thousands of dollars spent on repairs) my dad admitted to me that he put a hyper chip in the car, but that he took it out.

How the hell can I make sure the damn thing isn't still in there? Where is it located? I'm a complete newbie when it comes to the electrical stuff, so I need somebody to explain without throwing a bunch of acronyms and abbreviations at me. Can someone please provide me a picture of where it would be located and an explanation of what to do to get to it?

Are you asking about the 95 Z28? If so, there is no replaceable chip. 93 is the only year with a replaceable chip (It is possible to have a later model PCM "socketed" for a replaceable chip, but that is very seldom done). There is a Hypertech "module" that connects between the PCM and the harness connectors. If you pull the PCM/holder off the fender, you should be able to tell if something has been added.
