How long do fuel filters last?

Just wondering how long they last usually? mileage wise

I kno the techs at my work include a fuel filter replacement on 30K mile service on a "new" car.

I got 30k on mine now, my dad believes they last 100k miles...

Any brand recomendations?

I think i replaced mine last with a Fram fuel filter

Hi. I use wix from napa. One dirty load of gas in your tank and it is time to change your filter and it can happen again at any time. Assuming that doesn't happen then 30k would be alright but I like to change it out once a year. A dirty filter can cost you a fuel pump btw....

My stock car had the same one on it till 180k miles. I replaced it last year. They should last a long time.

I agree with you, cause you figure within 30k miles, how many times does your tank get fillled.

So think of all the chances of getting bad "dirty" gas

Not true about the pump for f-bodies. Pump in tank. Filter upstream.

No... there is a sock on the pump suction, the main filter is "downstream" (after) the pump. I doubt a clogged filter would "cost you a fuel pump". The engine would stop running when it got that bad.

before i went out on comp, shell actually had to clean all of their storage tanks for the new alcohol added fuels to prevent separation. it used to be before, the motor would sit 5-6" off the bottom of the tank, and the shutoff level for dirt, water, etc was 3" but too often sludge was still getting mixed up with the outbound gasoline. now, its .8" for a warning, and 1.5" inches of anything other than gas will automatically shut the line down until the tank is cleaned again. so shell brand was one of the worst, now one of the cleanest.

They will last nearly forever...but they get dirty sooner than that. It never hurts to change the filter. Clean gas is a good thing.

Re: How long do fuel filters last?

I change mine once a year period. Ive seen 15 year old cars with 30k on them have stopped shut filters. dont want to burn up any pumps.
