yea i could barely spin them when it was stock.......has the 2.73's still and the posi is gone now......so i can do one heck of a burout now.....lol hopefully soon redoing that.

basically if your car is stock, auto, with 2.73's, and no stall, there is nothing you can do about the start...........he owns you.....it's sad but true.......i am in the exact same position man.......i feel your pain.......

my neighbor thinks his 350 s-10 is all hot now because he ran ONE 1/4 time faster......had a one wheel spinner and 2.73's............we'll see how he likes the 3.42, 3500 stall set-up in a couple months

How do I know what gears I have in my A4. 1st to second shifts at 50mph. In 4th gear at 50mph, im at 1500rpm when the torque converter is locked up.

I assumed that i have the 2.73s

Look at your shift place if you have 1-2-D-OD-R-P then you have 3.23's. 2-D-OD-R-P means 2.73's.

thanx man, though it is counter intutive. I woudl think that if you have 2.73, y ou would want the optino of putting you car in gear 1, whereas with 3.23 its not as impt to have a 1st gear avaiable to shift in.

But then again, the whole concept of 2.73s is counterintuitive

Get yourself a B&M shiftplus. This $50 gizmo allows you to increase your transmissions line pressure at the flick of a switch. This helps your off the line launching tremendously, and that 1-2 shift will slam your head into the seat. Now you dont want to be driving around with it activated all the time, may damage your tranny although B&M claims it wont. After getting this device and sticky tires in the back, I have been invincible off the line on the street.

I thought every z28 came with limited slip? Does anyone know how to check without having someone watch if both your tires spin?

noone has to watch your tires spin. Do what I did to check to make sure my had a posi. Go out in front of your house, Press the brake down, hit the gas, slowly lift off brake, and when you are spinning forward you can stop. Then you get the thrill of seeing all the smoke you jsut created, seeing rubber on the ground, and hopefully seeing 2 stripes or black rubber on the ground. If you see 2, then you have posi, if one, not posi.

This is something you shouldn't do if you're on street tires. Smoking the tires on street tires only makes them greasy. This will only hurt your traction.

I have 3.42's and knocked out the plastic so i can select firsts gear. I put it about half way down and quikly ease on it till the floor, if i feel loss of traction i back off and nail it again and go to 2nd having good tires is good too.

Smoking street tires does not make them stickier. If you want to smoke the tires you need some slicks. If you're really obsessed with getting traction right before a race you could always go out there with a damp towel and wipe the dust off them...

Keyword for autos= stall. Hold the gas and the brake, when the light turns let off the brake and see how far you can hit the gas before you break traction. You should jump right off the line. Lugging it will either spin or bog, and easing into it just takes too long. My best launches are always accompied by a chirp right off the line, but no wheelspin.
