honking horn blows fuse????
hello just having a problem that's causing me not to pass inspection.
I've replaced the horn fuse multiple times, but every time I try to honk the horn the fuse blows and the horn didn't even get to make a sound.
Just wondering if this was common in older cars and if there was a place i needed to start at.
Its not the acc. power because it charges my phone perfectly while there is a good fuse, and I've tried honking the horn without anything plugged in it too. Same result.
Hoping to get a head start in finding the short somewhere...
Need the car to pass so I can get my ticket dismissed for no inspection
Thanks

The fuse is blowing because the horn circuit is drawing excessive amps. There's a short in the circuit somewhere between the fuse, and the horn itself. For starters, unplug the harness conector from one of the horns (there are two) and see if the fuse blows. If it does, unplug the second horn. If it still blows, the short is in the wiring. If it doesn't blow with one of the horns unplugged, that horn is the problem.
Are you sure the fuse you are replacing is the correct amp rating?
There's also a relay involved. Shoebox has the wiring diagram:

Also a photo of the location, inside the nose end of the passenger side front fender.

Yes, I'm using the correct fuse.
Thanks for the steps on getting it fix.
I don't know what happen, I'm thinking it is short some where in the wiring but after I just posted the first message I went back out and put a new fuse in and checked a few wires and honked it to show my dad what would happen. Well it honked... yeahhh
Could it be that I did an undercarriage wash the day before to remove all the oil I had underneath the car from a previous front main seal and that water caused the short?
It worked for the inspection guy after I left. So ill let it be for now, but if it happens again ill be sure to save this threads URL so I can follow your steps.
Thanks
