good buy?
hey everyone new to the forums. IM looking at buying a 95 z28 right now for 2500. the car has 116k miles on it but i test drove it and it seems in great shape. Only a little rust on the underside of the car. But there were two things that bothered me. 1. i drove it for about 15 minutes and was hard on it to see if anything went wrong. about 10 minutes into driving it there was white smoke coming from the side of the car from the catylitic converter. He has a magnaflow exhaust on it fyi. Any ideas what it might be? and 2 alot of oil on the bottom belt pulley? any ideas on that as well. Other than that nothing i can see wrong. Before buying it i will take it to a mechanic though to have the car checked over to make sure nothing is wrong with it. Sorry for the long post guys any help is appreciated.

Re: good buy?
Sounds like your leaking oil on to the ypipe area.
If its the intake manifold leaking the FelPro Gaskets are like $20 bucks and the diy fix takes about 4hrs depending on how fast you remove. If you get a mechanic to do it for you it will run from $300-500 dollars.
If its leaking from the rear main seal the part is about $20 bucks but requires you to drop the transmission to get to the seal. Mechanic will charge about $500 to do that job.
If its leaking at the rear oil pain then that's another $20 in gaskets but requires you to jack up the motor to be able to get to the oil pan bolts. This is another $500 mechanic job.
Those are probably the main leaks if its coming from the rear of the engine. If its the front you can check the timing chain cover/opti spark area.
The most common is the intake manifold leak. Do a quick search there are many how too's but best to get the car on a rack and have a mechanic look at it when its up in the air. This is your best bet at locating the leak before buying the car for $2500. You could easily put back $500-1000 back into the car if you paid someone to fix it for you.
