fuel gauge question

not to sure where to place this question but anyways. My fuel gauge on the stock cluster works but its kinda acting funky.

here are the problems:

when the tank is full the needle is past full by a lot (~1/2 inch maybe)

if the tank is empty the needle is on the bottom of the 1/8th mark right above E

if i fill my tank or close to full it the seems the gauge moves slowly but when the tank gets closer to empty the needle moves a lot faster.
**example: i drive 60 miles with a close to full tank. it'll show i used 1/8th of a tank. lets say i drive around and get to 3/4 of a tank the needle seems to go down way faster with the same driving.**

If i turn left/accelerate the needle moves toward full
If i turn right/deccelerate the needle moves toward empty

this isnt a big deal its just something i want fixed

Re: fuel gauge question

Totally normal. See Shoebox's writeup:

http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#fuel_gauge

Moving to "General 67-02 F-Body Tech".

Re: fuel gauge question

wow that is honestly one of the dumbest engineering designs. GM could have changed the gauge so that it doesnt look like its all ****ed up

Re: fuel gauge question

In 17 years of owning my Formula, it never became a problem. After working out basically the same table that Shoebox has of gauge postion vs. actual gallons remaining, I know exactly how much fuel is in the tank at any point in time.

No use in complaining about it now. Everyone deals with it.

Similar situation with mine. When I picked it up, it was showing half a tank, so I stopped to top it off. Imagine my surprise when the gas pump showed 15 gallons when it stopped! I started looking for gas on the ground and a hole in the tank. To be fair, I think mine has an issue, as it's outside the ranges listed on Shoebox's site. I just haven't gotten around to testing the wiring yet.
