engine storage w/o oil

simple question...my LT1 (in my '35) has been sitting about 5 years WITH oil in it. I want to drain the oil to remove the oil cooler, put in the new sender, etc, but I probably wont be able to fire this thing until the spring and I don't want to fill up with new oil and leave it sitting for months.

Is there any harm in leaving it with no oil for 6 months or so or should I just put oil back in to be safe? Thanks

Don't worry about putting oil back in it. All the oil that was on the upper engine has ran down by now, it's dry. It'd be better to fill it up right before you started it anyways so the oil runs through at least some of the valve springs and what not. I'd fill it up from both valve covers...
