Driver Window Motor Dies Every 3 Months
My driver window motor went out again for the 3rd time now since september 2009. At least the gm 12 month warranty keeps giving me free ones.
So I got a new one from GM but i want to figure out what is causing the motors to stop working.
Has this happened to anyone before? Thanks for any help!

Maybe you have excessive effort needed to operate the window. Is the flat wound spring still in place on the regulator? All rollers and channel clear, lubed and operating freely? Good voltage to the motor? Definitely abnormal failure rate for the motor.

I used shoebox's guide and changed my driver's side 3 yrs or so ago and I believe a Dorman 742-101? same motor both sides...Driver's side has worked ever since although some other pieces broke probably due to the slight disruption and old age...had to pay a dealer $80 to deal with some piece of plastic mount to the glass...I figured it was too much of a gamble to drill out rivets next to glass which could become a $300 repair with any err...
anyway I just fixed my passenger side as well less than a month ago, 13 yrs old and finally died...it's working like a champ now... shoebox's guide is great.
I would suggest trying a different motor....
also does your window go up smoothly? does it go up different than the other side which doesn't die every 3 months? is it possible the 'guide' or window stablizer is too tight and creates extra stress for the motor? mine broke shortly after the new motor was installed!
