Difference between Orifice Tubes in A/C System

Hi guys,

I'm going to be installing my AC system in the coming next couple weeks. One of the parts that I need to replace is the Orifice tube. I noticed there are three different kinds for the Z28 -- one is the "Standard" OEM Orifice tube, another is the "Non Extreme Weather -105 degree" tube, and finally the extra pricey, "Extreme Weather +105" tube.

I was wondering if anyone can weigh in on this -- is it really needed to have the Extreme Weather tube? Or even the Non Extreme Weather tube? The OEM tube is only 80 cents at rockauto. The other tubes are 25+ dollars. The description mentions that they are self adjusting. I'm not even sure exactly what these tubes do. Can anyone explain, or tell me what they recommend using? I live in Los Angeles, if that gives a better indication of what i might need..

I guess one question would be what kind of system you are installing. a 93-97 f-body system does not even use an orifice tube. If that is the case, your question is moot.

Orifice tube??????

He's sub planted the LT1 in a Jaguar. And asked the same question on another forum.
Difference between Orifice Tubes in A/C System - LS1LT1 Forum : LT1, LS1, Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am, Engine Tech Forums

But as far as I can tell, the Jaguar uses a THX and thought they were never used together.

So this is definitely the wrong forum for this question. It belongs in a Jaguar forum not LT or LS. Certainly NOT LT engine forum.

Well, when you don't get enough information, it's hard to help. I knew it was a transplant (seen the multitude of threads), but you can only guess when there are no details on the particular work being done. I saw the thread on the other forum, but had replied here first. Got no response here, so just went on to other things.
