crank position sensor

i was getting code P0336 code on my 97 Camaro (LT1) with code P0303... i changed the Crank position sensor as i had a new one already... the issue is after changing it the rpm goes up and stays around 1500 RPM while in Park or Neutral gears, goes around 800-900RPM in Drive or Reverse..

why would the RPM go up after changing the crankshaft position sensor?

thanks

Re: crank position sensor

Is it possible you knocked the coolant temp sensor connector off the coolant temp sensor in the water pump housing?

i dont really think so, would the coolant temp sensor do that? because i was getting code P0118 as well

just in case another code i did get was P0400

all codes were before changing the crank sensor

Re: crank position sensor

The PCM elevates the idle RPM based on low coolant temp. It will also cause the engine to run extremely rich, because the PCM uses a richer A/F ratio when the coolant is cold.

Have you rechecked the codes since you replaced the CKP sensor?

Re: crank position sensor

There are some instances of problems with the Opti causing that code to set. The CKP is only used for misfire detection. But the PCM has to compare the rotational velocity of the CKP to the know RPM of the engine, and the PCM gets the RPM info from the Opti.

Did you check the harness wires for the CKP?
