converting our stock rack to a manual

if i disconect all the lines and just leave it that way will i be able to turn still ? should i plug the line holes or will that just trap air and cause it to not turn at all?

On my car the two lines on the rack are just connected with a hose and hose clamps. It turns fine.

How much weight did removing the PS pump save? You drive it on the street still?

I dont know about the weight but driving with skinnies up front is not bad at all. The only hard part is turning with the car stopped and that is not too tough.

I think you might want to check into this a bit more. I've heard that you shouldn't do this type of thing. I asked around while wanting to remove my p/s belt and run it just without the belt. Sorry, that I don't have any specific to add, but I do think this warrants further investigation.

Anyway, you might want to do a little research. I'd hate to have no steering control while testing/racing at high speeds.

The easiest thing to do is remove the pump and belt and run a loop connecting the two ports on the stock rack. DO NOT just block them off.

I had this on my car for a while until I swapped in a Pinto rack. Even w/ a manny rack, the car is MUCH easier to turn that with a bypassed power rack. The turning ratio in the Pinto rack is much MUCH better than the factory power rack (12:1 vs. 18:1, IIRC).
