Clogged Cat?

I have read somewhere that the way that you could tell if a cat is clogged is the pipe right after the cat will get very hot. Well sure enough, the S pipe (stainless steal) coming off the cat has gotten so hot that it has changed colors! ( THIS IS IN THE FIRST 20 MILES OF BEING ON THERE ! [i just installed my magnaflow exhaust] ) Is this normal or should i suspect a clogged cat? i was going to gut the cat out while the stock exhaust was out, but i decided against it. i am thinking now that i should have. i can get a pic of it tomorrow.

Re: Clogged Cat?

when i installed my Borla, i was soooo disappointed because my car didnt sound any different than the stock exhaust, well sure enough 20 miles later i was driving at night and i stomped on it, it was sooooooooo slow it felt like a 4cly. Car shut off and would not start, found out the cat was clogged. Got a new cat on there, and boy did i ever love the sound comming from the borla ...sounds even better with a borla y pipe and high flow cat

how many miles are on your car. i would say your cat could be clogged.I would think the y pipe will heat up alot more

Re: Clogged Cat?

i just put on a magnaflow catback and slp cai and i can't feel any sotp difference, i was just hoping that maybe my cat was clogged My exhaust does seem very quiet, quieter than most other magnaflows. the car has 100000 miles on it, but i dont think that it is a stock cat because it is catco (<which i heard were awful)

Re: Clogged Cat?

I took off my stock exhaust and didn't notice a SINGLE bit of difference, the cat must have been clogged. SO, after removing the clogged part, (it weighted 15 pounds). I iinstalled a straight Magnaflow Exhaust on my dedicated race car (not street legal). DIRECTLY where the cat used to be.

I'm going to a track day this weekend, so I'll see how it performs, it sounds real nice and it's STRAIGHT THROUGH (AMAZING).

I HOPE I will gain 15 HP or more..
