Can you use the regular sized head gasket if your .30 over?
Just wonderng, incase I really do have a blown head gasket. Also, when the engine was rebuilt it had a thinner head gasket put on it. Atleast that's what I thought he said, supposed to bump up the compression by half a point or something like that? Is it a real biggy, if I use a standard sized one. Thanks.

What head gaskets are you going with?
When you're looking at the gasket specs, see what the "gasket bore" is. Should be 4.080" or 4.100" or something like that.

Fel-Pro 1074's have a gasket bore of 4.125". Not sure what the stock GM ones are, but they'll be OK with a .030 over. Definitely not a 4.030 gasket bore on them.
I'd find out for sure what gaskets were on it. Might be running the Impala gasket, which I think is .029" compressed. Find out for sure, I don't know the implications of running 2 different thickness head gaskets, but I can imagine it wouldn't be very good.

If it comes to a blown head gasket. I was just going to pull the gaskets and take them in with me. The engine installer put in a cam that is popular with the Impala crowd, Crane 104227, so maybe he did the gasket as well. I'd call him, but I doubt he remembers me after five years.
