Can I clean my MAF with brake cleaner?
#18
if anyone has used it with no known problems then they got lucky or maybe didn't use too much/enough. brake cleaner has some powerful chemicals that can damage the sensitive maf parts. dont even mess with it

It's interesting that the people who are the most adamant about not using anything but MAF Cleaner seem to have the least experience using any of these product. What do you think was used before MAF Cleaner.
BRAKE CLEANER
Contains: (CAS#) heptane (142-82-5),
acetone (67-64-1), methanol (67-56-1), and carbon dioxide
(124-38-9).
Contains no chlorinated solvents. Leaves no residue and dries ultra fast.
Mass Air Flow Sensors & housing cleaner
Contains: Petroleum Distillate/Alcohol, Carbon Dioxide
The only difference between these two products is possibly the heptane and acetone, both of which are simply solvents. Unfortunately the MAF Cleaner doesn't say what the Petroleum Distillates are. But these are also solvents!!!
It's clear that the heptane and acetone can damage some plastics, but this product dries so fast that it is unlikely, unless you soaked the MAF in it!!
So I don't see anything in the Brake Cleaner that would harm the MAF Screen or Sensor Wire, just minimize the amount you get on the plastic.
And YES I have used Brake Cleaner many time on my still working MAF before they releast the MAF Cleaner.

good for you....
just cause someone likes to cut themselves and say there's no adverse affect doesnt mean they should tell ppl there's nothing wrong it.
And before there was MAF cleaner there was throttle body cleaner, which will work just as well.... if you must know
